Justin’s love for football began at the age of seven. By 18, he was competing at the top level, and for
five years, he lived his dream on the pitch. However, his journey with football also came with
challenges, particularly injuries.
Justin’s most recent setback was his third ACL tear, a dreaded injury for any athlete. During an
11-a-side game, a hyperextended knee and a loud pop signaled the worst. The diagnosis? A torn ACL,
requiring surgery and yet another road to recovery.
This time, however, Justin was introduced to Nick just days after surgery, which marked the beginning of
an intense, but rewarding recovery journey.
“ACL reconstruction is not something nice to go through,” Justin reflected. “The surgery itself is painful, but the real challenge comes later, putting in the hard work to recover.” Having been through two prior ACL reconstructions, Justin knew what to expect. But this time, his recovery journey felt different.
In their first session, Nick removed Justin’s brace, assessed his condition, and began treatments to activate his muscles using advanced techniques, like electrical muscle stimulation. Within just a week, Justin could feel his leg muscles regaining strength. He was soon walking with a brace, and after just two weeks, he was walking completely unaided. The speed of his progress surprised even him.
“Compared to my previous surgeries, this recovery was way faster in terms of pain, discomfort, and overall progress. Nick’s knowledge and guidance made all the difference.”
From the outset, Justin set his sights high. While Nick advised him to avoid contact sports until May the following year, Justin had another goal: completing a marathon in December, just 20 weeks post-op. Though an ambitious target, Nick supported him, carefully tailoring the rehabilitation process to balance progress with caution.
While Justin ultimately decided against running the marathon to avoid overstraining his knee, he still achieved remarkable milestones. Just 20 weeks post-surgery, he was running long distances and even completed a 17-kilometer run.
“My friends were amazed by how fast I recovered,” he said. “And honestly, I was, too. It’s something I’m really proud of.”
For Justin, returning to football meant more than just running- it required agility, stability, and the ability to change directions quickly. Nick incorporated sport-specific exercises into the rehab sessions, focusing on jumping, pivoting, and maintaining stability even under fatigue. Each session felt like a simulation of game scenarios, ensuring Justin’s body was prepared for the demands of the sport he loved.
“Nick always made sure my muscles were ready for the next step,” Justin explained. “Even when I was tired, we worked on stability and movement to prepare me for the challenges of football.”

Justin has undergone three ACL reconstructions during his football career, with the latest occurring after an 11-a-side game where his knee hyperextended, causing a complete ACL tear.
Justin began his recovery journey with Nick just days after surgery and, within two weeks, he was walking completely unaided- far quicker than his previous recoveries.
Despite being only 20 weeks post-op, Justin achieved significant milestones, including running a 17-kilometer distance and hitting a one-rep max squat, surprising both himself and his friends.

One major milestone for Justin was hitting a one-rep max squat. Despite being a professional footballer, Justin had never prioritised squats. But during rehab, he and Nick worked towards this achievement. Less than 20 weeks post-surgery, Justin hit his one-rep max, an accomplishment that shocked even his friends.
“They couldn’t believe it,” he laughed. “They said I was crazy to be squatting that much weight so soon after surgery. It was a moment that really made me proud.”

Throughout his recovery, Justin consistently praised Nick’s expertise and supportive approach. Whether addressing discomfort, identifying tightness, or providing reassurance, Nick’s knowledge and attentiveness made a significant impact.
“He’s not just there during the sessions,” Justin noted. “He would check in with me, ask how I was feeling, and help ease any concerns I had. That kind of care makes a big difference in recovery.”
Justin also appreciated Nick’s ability to create an environment that felt less clinical and more personal. “It felt like having a friend by my side, guiding me and supporting me through every step of the process.”
For athletes facing similar injuries, Justin emphasised the importance of mental resilience. “Recovery is tough- not just physically, but mentally,” he said. “Your physio can guide you, but they can’t be with you 24/7. You have to put in the work on your own.”
His advice? Stay committed to your rehab plan, hit the gym outside of physio sessions, and remain mentally strong. “The effort you put in will make your recovery smoother and faster,” he said.

As athletes, we constantly push our bodies to achieve peak performance. However, with the thrill of competition comes the risk of injuries that can sideline us for weeks or even months. Fortunately, most sports injuries are preventable with the right approach.
In today’s fast-paced world, our bodies often bear the brunt of modern life. From managing pain and recovering from injuries to maintaining mobility, the right therapeutic approach can transform your well-being. Two standout methods in physical health—osteopathy and physiotherapy—are complementary therapies that together create a powerful synergy for recovery and long-term health.
Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a complex condition that affects millions of individuals, significantly impacting their quality of life. Research shows that 15-20% of women experience chronic pelvic pain at some point in their lives.
Physiotherapy, often associated with rehabilitation and injury recovery, has expanded its scope to become an integral component of athletic performance enhancement.
Becoming a mother is a transformative experience filled with joy, challenges, and significant physical changes. Prenatal and postnatal physiotherapy plays a crucial role in supporting new moms through these changes, helping them recover and thrive.
Engaging in sports or any physical activity offers numerous benefits and is a fantastic way to stay active, socialise, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, the thrill of competition can sometimes lead to injuries that may not only impact your performance but also your overall well-being.
